When it comes to day hikes, having the right pack can make all the difference between an enjoyable outing and a frustrating one. We have been testing the WOLF TACTICAL Molle Backpack over the past few months on various Ohio trails, and it has become one of our go-to options for day trips. If you are looking for something rugged, well-organized, and built to last, this 24-liter daypack might be exactly what you need.
First Impressions
Right out of the box, you can tell this pack means business. The weather-resistant nylon feels substantial without being overly heavy. At 24 liters, it hits that sweet spot for day hikes where you need room for snacks, water, a first aid kit, and extra layers without carrying a full expedition pack.
The pack comes in four colors: Black, Mcblack, OD Green, and Tan. We went with the OD Green which blends nicely on the trail and does not show dirt as easily as lighter colors might.

Testing It on Ohio Trails
We took this pack out to Hocking Hills, Zaleski State Forest, and several Columbus metro parks over the past couple of months. On longer hikes like the Grandma Gatewood Trail, we appreciated how well the weight distributed across our shoulders even when fully loaded with water bottles, snacks, and camera gear.

One thing we really liked was having enough room for our dog Luther's supplies when he comes along. His collapsible water bowl, treats, and extra leash fit easily in the front pocket without taking up space in the main compartment.

What We Liked
Organization
The multiple compartments really shine on the trail. Having dedicated spots for your phone, snacks, maps, and first aid supplies means you are not digging through one big cavity looking for your trail mix. The MOLLE webbing on the exterior lets you attach additional pouches or gear if you need to expand your carrying capacity. We added a small carabiner clip for our keys and it worked perfectly.
Comfort
The padded mesh back panel keeps air flowing during those warmer hiking days. We tested this on several summer hikes and appreciated not having a completely soaked back at the end. The adjustable straps distribute weight well, even when we packed it fairly heavy with multiple water bottles. For reference, my Dad borrowed it for a trip to Mohican and said it was more comfortable than his old Kelty pack.
Durability
This pack is built to take some abuse. The stitching is solid, the zippers feel heavy-duty, and the material shrugs off light rain without issue. We got caught in a drizzle at Salt Fork and everything inside stayed dry. If you hike in areas with thick brush or rocky terrain, this pack can handle getting bumped and scraped without showing much wear.

Considerations
The tactical styling is not for everyone. If you prefer gear that looks more like traditional hiking equipment, the military-inspired aesthetic might feel out of place at a nature preserve. That said, we found it functional first and fashionable second, which is what matters on the trail.
At around $72, it sits at a mid-range price point. You can find cheaper daypacks, but you will likely sacrifice durability. For the build quality you get here, we think it represents good value for hikers who want something that will last several seasons.
Best Uses for Ohio Hikers
- Day hikes at state parks - The 24L capacity is ideal for 4-8 hour outings at places like Hocking Hills or John Bryan
- Metro park exploring - Enough room for essentials plus a camera for wildlife photography
- Fall and winter hikes - Fits extra layers, gloves, and a thermos easily
- Hiking with dogs - Plenty of pockets for pet supplies without digging through the main compartment
Final Thoughts
The WOLF TACTICAL Molle Backpack is a solid choice for hikers who value organization and durability over ultralight minimalism. It has handled everything we have thrown at it on Ohio trails and continues to hold up well after months of regular use. If you are in the market for a rugged daypack that can do double duty for hiking and everyday carry, we highly recommend giving it a look.
You can find the WOLF TACTICAL Molle Backpack on Amazon where it currently holds a 4.5 out of 5 star rating from other buyers. It is well worth considering for your next trail adventure.
Happy trails!
